2011 / Rush to perdition

Exhibition views : André Morin

HD format, surround sound, 16mn

The video Rush to Perdition plunges us into the obscurity of the abandoned gold mines from the first and one of the greatest gold rushes in the world, located in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Illuminated by the flickering light of flashlights, images of artworks created in the lucrative and tragic context of this period using gold extracted from these mountains gradually blend with the dark, glittering caverns. The camera “brings the ghosts of history back to life in the cavernous darkness of the mines, but also in the liturgical art of the XVIIth century.” Roxana Azimi.
